I can almost enjoy my current situation given the pleasant company, the cooler air, the New Hampshire woods and the stone-quiet environment !
And this Sunday there were 26 (countem’) family denizens gathered to feast on a huge variety of salads, meatballs and sausages, as well as pasta dishes, et alii. A generous display of cookies, cakes, brownies and squares tempted the sweet-tooth. Yes, there was icy-cold beer. Food has always been a paramount attraction for our get-togethers. There are a lot of good cooks doing their own things, and sharing in the pot luck. There were lawn games and general joie de vie. We especially welcomed the emergence of my grand nephew Tom, who is recovering from a liver transplant, and looks and feels so much better.
We don’t have as many meetings as we once did. The separate contingents have grown, and tend to celebrate their own holidays. I am single, and I miss seeing the whole family as often as when we were fewer, but an occasion like the so-called Fathers Day wingding was evidence of the bond we all share, and the remembrance of its genesis at my Mom and Dad’s house, before my sister was married in 1947.
I would have enjoyed contributing a dish, hot off my newly-installed RV grill….like
the Red Sox,,,,maybe next year.
