I’ve been living the RV lifestyle for more than 30 years. I was born and brought up in a small city just north of Boston, Massachusetts. So, why the “Bayoubob”? It’s complex. You see, after my boyhood pal and I were discharged from the army in 1958 we decided to open a coffeehouse in Amherst, near the UMASS campus. During the planning stages I was working in the display department of a large Downtown Crossing store in Boston, the practical application of my then-schooling at the Art Institute, and commuting to the Pioneer Valley on weekends.
When I left messages asking what I could bring to the parties….er, planning sessions, Ron would send notes stating simply that I should “B Y O B”. The meaning to these cryptic replies: “bring your own bottle [blanket, broad.]” I always asked, and always got the same answer….B Y O B! That evolved to my closely-held nickname BAYOUBOB. Now, when I’m asked about it, I curtly state, “Well, maybe I’d RATHER be on the bayou!” I’ve spent lots of time down south, traveled the country extensively, and converted most of the RVs that I have owned. Larger then; smaller now that I roam alone. My RVs are methodically thought out and executed slowly [VERY, thousands would add!] That’s OK, I enjoy the planning and improving,… like any labor-of -love.
I’m in my 35th year (in 2010) as a full-timer in RV residence. Ask me anything! I am RV CENTRAL. BAYOUBOB
